This appendix contains a few lines about the 22 authors of this book, in alphabetical order. The following abbreviations are used:

is the Institute for Hypermedia Systems of JOANNEUM RESEARCH, Graz, Austria.

IAIK
is the Institute for Applied Information Processing and Communications of the Graz University of Technology, Austria.

IICM
is the Institute for Information Processing and Computer Supported new Media of the Graz University of Technology, Austria.

IIS
is the Institute for Information Systems of JOANNEUM RESEARCH, Graz, Austria.

UMN
is the University of Minnesota at Minneapolis, USA.

Keith Andrews, Keith is the author of Chapters 2, 3, 15, 16 and 23.

Keith (kandrews@iicm.tu-graz.ac.at) is a member of the IICM. He has coordinated the development of Harmony with respect to user interface issues. His research interests include human-computer interaction, information visualization and (3D) computer graphics.

Christian Derler, Christian is co-author of Chapter 20.

Christian (cderler@iis.joanneum.ac.at) is a member of the IIS. He developed version 2.xx of the WWW gateway of Hyper-G for his master's thesis [Derler(1995)].

Thomas Dietinger, Thomas is co-author of Chapters 17, 18 and 24.

Thomas (tdieting@iicm.tu-graz.ac.at) is a member of the IICM. He coordinates the Amadeus and Easy development and has programmed large parts of Amadeus.

Mansuet Gaisbauer, Mansuet is co-author of Appendix E.

Mansuet (mgais@iicm.tu-graz.ac.at) is a member of the IICM. He coordinates the Harmony software development and the development of the (platform-independent) SGML/HTML viewer.

Christian Huber, Christian is the author of Chapter 7 and co-author of Chapter 24.

Christian (chuber@iicm.tu-graz.ac.at) is a member of the IICM. He is developing the text viewer of Amadeus for his master's thesis.

Frank Kappe, Frank is the author of Chapters 5, 8, 9, 10 and 11, Appendices A, F, and J and co-author of Chapter 31 and Appendix G.

Frank (fkappe@iicm.tu-graz.ac.at; http://hyperg.iicm.tu-graz.ac.at/fkappe) is a member of the IICM. He coordinates the Hyper-G software development and programmed the first client (HGTV). His research interests include distributed hypermedia systems, scalable systems and information visualization.

Peter Lipp, Peter is co-author of Chapter 30.

Peter (plipp@iaik.tu-graz.ac.at) is a member of the IAIK. His research interests include network security and secure payment systems.

Hermann Maurer, Hermann is the author of Chapters 1 and 4, Appendices C and D and co-author of Chapters 29 and 31.

Hermann (hmaurer@www.tu-graz.ac.at, http://hyperg.iicm.tu-graz.ac.at/maurer) is the head of the HMS and IICM. As such, he is responsible for the general direction of research and development efforts, international cooperation, funding and public relations of HMS and IICM. His main research interests include multimedia and networked multimedia systems and their applications to electronic publishing, multimedia presentation, computer supported communication and education.

Mark McCahill, Mark is the author of Chapter 6.

Mark (mpm@boombox.micro.umn.edu) is a member of the UMN, where he and his colleagues have developed the Gopher system. They are currently working on the Macintosh Hyper-G client and the Macintosh version of VRweb.

Gerald Mesaric, Gerald is co-author of Chapters 20, 21, 22 and 25.

Gerald (gmesaric@iicm.tu-graz.ac.at) is a member of the IICM. He maintains the IICM Hyper-G server (among others) and works on a generic PDF viewer.

Steven Mitter, Steven is the author of Chapter 13.

Steven (smitter@hms.joanneum.ac.at) is a member of the HMS. He is the programmer of the PC library and other PC-based projects. He also developed the stand-alone Hyper-G database.

Helmut Mülner, Helmut is the author of Chapter 26.

Helmut (hmuelner@hms.joanneum.ac.at) is a member of the HMS. He is project leader of a number of PC-based projects, including the PC library. He is also an expert on SGML, LaTeX, Perl, C, C++, LISP, Emacs and computer games.

Günter Nagler, Günter is co-author of Chapter 19 and Appendix H.

Günter (gnagler@hms.joanneum.ac.at) is a member of the HMS and implements Easy. He has also developed a number of PC-based stand-alone hypermedia systems for exhibitions.

Gerbert Orasche, Gerbert is co-author of Chapters 17, 18, 19 and 24.

Gerbert (gorasche@iicm.tu-graz.ac.at) is a member of the IICM. He developed PostScript and VRML viewers for Amadeus and maintains the Windows version of VRweb.

Gerald Pani, Gerald is co-author of Appendix G.

Gerald (gpani@hms.joanneum.ac.at) is a member of the HMS. He coordinates development of the Hyper-G server and has coded large portions of it himself.

Srinivasan Parthasarathy, Srinivasan is the author of Chapters 12 and 27.

Srinivasan (psrini@iicm.tu-graz.ac.at) is a member of the IICM. He is the programmer of a number of PC-based projects and implemented parts of the SQL interface. His research interests include Hypermedia data modeling and Information retrieval.

Reinhard Posch, Reinhard is co-author of Chapter 30.

Reinhard (rposch@iaik.tu-graz.ac.at) is the head of the IAIK. His research interests include networking in general, computer security and VLSI design.

Peter Sammer, Peter is co-author of Chapter 19 and Appendix H.

Peter (psammer@hms.joanneum.ac.at) is a member of the HMS. He has been directing the development of several multimedia and hypermedia projects for different clients, world expositions, local fairs and other presentations.

Walter Schinnerl, Walter is co-author of Chapters 22 and 25.

Walter (wschinn@hms.joanneum.ac.at) is a member of the HMS. He maintains the server of the Graz University of Technology (among others) and writes scripts for mass insertion of information.

Klaus Schmaranz, Klaus is the author of Chapters 14 and 28 and Appendix B and co-author of Chapters 21, 25 and 31.

Klaus (kschmar@iicm.tu-graz.ac.at) is a member of the IICM. He developed the Harmony PostScript viewer, coordinates development of a PDF viewer and maintains the J.UCS collection. His research interests include electronic publishing and new document formats.

Achim Schneider, Achim prepared the index and polished this book.

Achim (aschneid@iicm.tu-graz.ac.at) was an early fan and promoter of Hyper-G while working on his Ph.D. at the University of Auckland in New Zealand and roaming other parts of the world.

Robert Stubenrauch, Robert is co-author of Chapter 29 and prepared the glossary.

Robert (rstubenr@hms.joanneum.ac.at, http://hyperg.iicm.tu-graz.ac.at/ rstubenr) is a member of the HMS. He creates Web applications based on Hyper-G. His main professional interests are information design and electronic publishing over computer networks.
