This thesis extends MUSLI, a multi-sensory language environment, first introduced by Lennon and Maurer in 1994 in order to keep up with todays information explosion. MUSLI is a dynamic, multimedia language environment with underlying computer readable semantics. It allows precise and concise expression of concrete and abstract ideas, adaption for different domains, fast information retrieval, and individual customization.
We shall discuss the inherent advantages of this approach such domain modeling, computer-supported abstraction of information, temporal and spatial relationships, queries and filters, and ease of navigation through the information space. The MUSLI framework, object structure, and language structure are discussed in detail.
To verify and test the concepts discussed herein a prototype was implemented in Macromedia Director. The example domain is story telling, the story used is ``Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs''.

I started work on this Master's thesis in New Zealand at the Hypermedia Unit (HMU) at the University of Auckland and completed it in Austria at the Institute for Information Processing and Computer Supported New Media (IICM) at the Graz University of Technology. I am deeply grateful for the unique opportunity of writing my thesis at the Hypermedia Unit in Auckland. I would like to thank Prof. Hermann Maurer for his help to make this dream come true and for his support and Dr. Jennifer Lennon for the invitation to Auckland, her support, her friendship and encouragement. Also, many thanks to all members of the Hypermedia Unit for their support and friendship. I really would like to thank my friend Tom Haberfellner for his support, the fun we had together, and for his refreshing opinions during discussions. Tom is responsible for the visual design of the prototype and has created the icons and symbols used in this thesis.
I deeply thank my family. It is their support, love, and courage that I have needed to pursue my dreams. Without their help I would not be where I am today.
