3.3.9.5 Software
One big positive aspect of using the WWW for online education, is the fact that students may not need more software than a WWW browser. Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer is usually installed on nearly every computer which is attached to a local network or a modem, and thus to the Internet. Teachers do not have to worry whether students use PCs, Macintoshs or UNIX workstations. Nowadays, browser software is free for educational use, and thus students can also install the software at home without additional cost. As far as network costs are concerned, there is a problem especially in Europe, because even local calls are charged per unit of time.
