SNMP is defined in the Internet RFC 1157 [Case et al.(1990)], a standardized MIB (MIB-II) is in RFC 1213 [McCloghrie and Rose(1991)]. ASN.1 is defined in ISO standards 8824 [ISO(1987a)] and 8825 [ISO(1987b)].

A good introduction to the problems associated with concurrency control, recovery, replication and caching in distributed databases is in the book by DistributedSystems.
