A number of HTML authoring tools are now freely available for UNIX platforms, including asWedit asWedit and Symposia Symposia. The most popular image manipulation tools for UNIX are XV XV and the PBMPLUS utility suite PBMPLUS. The best resource for MPEG is Luigi Filippini' s online Web site MPEG-FAQ. The mpegUtil utility mpegUtil allows MPEG clips to be extracted and concatenated. A good printed source of information on image and video formats is Graphics File Formats by [Murray and van Ryper(1994)]. The Network Audio System is described in [Fulton and Renda(1994)]. The Audio page of the WWW Virtual Library (available at http://cnidr.org/talks/whyzdist.html) has numerous links to audio software and samples. The VRML Repository VRMLRepository maintains a list of modeling tools and conversion utilities for VRML.
