4.3 Further reading

A description of many specific applications of hypermedia systems is contained in [Lennon and Maurer(1994a)]. A good technical description of compression techniques for pictures and other media is found in [Buford-Koegel(1994)]. The standard book on text compression is [Witten et al.(1994)]. A very readable survey of CSCW work is [Dewan(1993)]. For an electronic discussion on Hyper-G facilities, browse the site http://hgiicm.tu-graz.ac.at. For digital libraries and their applications to teaching see for example [Marchionini and Maurer(1995)] and [Maurer and Lennon(1995)] and the special issue on digital libraries of the Communications of the ACM [Communications of the ACM(1995)]. J.UCS can be found at http://hyperg.iicm.tu-graz.ac.at/JUCS_root and the server of the ED-MEDIA 95 conference is at http://www.iicm.tu-graz.ac.at/edmedia. Security aspects of hypermedia systems are for example dealt with in [Posch(1995)] and public-key cryptography is explained in [Schneier(1995)].

For more information on multimedia document formats refer to [Berners-Lee and Conolly(1993)] for HTML [Wallace(1991)] for JPEG, [Adobe Systems Inc.(1990)] for PostScript, [Adobe Systems Inc.(1993)] for PDF and [ISO(1986)] for SGML.
