7 World Wide Web: A first plateau

In this chapter we will give a brief overview of the World Wide Web (WWW). Beginning with the history of WWW, we shall describe the three elements which WWW is made of: HTML, HTTP and URL. In the last part of this chapter we will introduce some WWW servers, WWW browsers and WWW editors. With CGI it is possible to improve WWW. How this can be done and what drawbacks remain will be discussed at the end of this chapter.
