B.2 Structure of the CD-ROM
On the CD-ROM you will find several subdirectories with a README file in each subdirectory describing how to install these parts. If binaries exist that can be started directly from the CD-ROM the README file also explains how to start them.
You will also find a README file in the root directory of the CD-ROM containing last minute information. Please read the contents of this file first before running or installing anything from the CD-ROM.
Sometimes you will find two README files, README.DOS and README.UX if the subdirectory contains information for both MS-DOS and UNIX. In this case please read the file appropriate for you current operating system.
Under UNIX all subdirectory- and filenames are either in lowercase or in uppercase letters depending on how your CD-ROM driver deals with the ISO-9660 file system. In the following list of subdirectories the subdirectory names are all listed in lowercase.
List of subdirectories on the CD-ROM:
- server: Hyper-G server binaries, tools and installation utilities.
- harmony: Harmony, the native Hyper-G UNIX client.
- amadeus: Amadeus, the native Hyper-G MS-Windows client.
- hgtv: HGTV, the native Hyper-G UNIX VT100 terminal client.
- easy: Easy, the Hyper-G kiosk client for MS-Windows.
- vrweb: VRWeb, the stand alone VRML viewer for UNIX and MS-Windows.
- hmcard: HM-Card, an authoring and presentation tool for MS-Windows.
- Perl: Perl, a popular script language needed by some Hyper-G tools.
- localdb: A collection of documentation and demo documents in a local database. It is used by the local database variants of Harmony and Amadeus that can be started either directly from the CD-ROM or installed on the hard disk.
- tools: Several Hyper-G tools that can be started
directly from the CD-ROM or installed on the hard disk. This
subdirectory itself is divided into several application oriented
subdirectories:
- hiftools: Tools to export and import HIF files from and into a Hyper-G server. If you are installing your own Hyper-G server it is not necessary to also install those tools because they are included in the server distribution.
- hgtools: Tools for offline Hyper-G database manipulation. If you are installing your own Hyper-G server it is not necessary to install all of them, because most of those tools are already included in the server distribution. Further details on which files are included in the server distribution and which files are not can be found in the README file in this subdirectory.
- ldbtools: Tools for preparation of a local Hyper-G database from a HIF file.
- cdtools: Tools for preparation of a CD-ROM that includes
all local and network Hyper-G viewers as well as installation
programs and a local database.
- data: HIF files of manual pages, documentation and demo data to be inserted in a Hyper-G server.
- man: UNIX manual pages on Hyper-G and all tools that belong to Hyper-G.
- doc: technical documentation on Hyper-G.
- book: this book in electronic form.
