3.3.9.3 Search engines

A huge number of search engines help students to find additional information. Nevertheless, the great number of search engines to chose from make life quite hard for students. They can use ``meta'' search engines which give them the result of several search engines combined, but often users get too much information and good skills are needed to pick the right document which hopefully contains useful information. The fact that everybody can publish on the WWW does not help either.

An international independent rating system is needed. Well known publishing companies could, for instance, label documents according to reliability, and provide the right keywords for search engines. The PICS[*] project of the World Wide Web Consortium is an example for such a labelling system.
