Scientific Working - The Course at a glance Lifelong Learning Course (is offerd as online course) 1. Introduction The objectives of the course Scientific Working are that students gain insight in how to design, monitor, and interpret experiments and studies. Therefore, students will get background information about different research designs and an overview about several methods of analysis. In small groups, they will work on pre-defined subtopics in order to broaden their knowledge. In addition, they will plan a small study on a given research question themselves. During the course, they will be asked to provide feedback to their peers' work. Accordingly, they will also receive feedback for their work from their peers and experts in the fields. These sufficient feedback activities should not only support students in reflecting their own work but also in critically dealing with others' solution of a problem. The online course is expected to take 8 to 12 hours for three phases, for all phases feedback and learning progress will be provided:
2. Organizational Aspects a) Type of course Scientific working is planned entirely as online course, all content can be accessed and activities can be completed via a standard Web browser. There is no physical presence on campus planned, however, virtual consultation hours for both subject topic and technical issues will be offered. Participants will be assigned to groups (group size is two) and some of the tasks has to be completed collaboratively in the group. b) Access to content and plattform As the course is offered for a closed group of participants, access to learning content and platform will be communicated by email. c) Schedule Start of the online course: June 20th In case of schedule problems some slightly deviations for specific groups can be agreed on but needs to be discussed with the course organisators. d) Communication
e) Privacy As part of the course an experiment will be conducted including survey forms and tracking of interaction pattern. All information will be anonymized and used as such for research purpose only. Each of the participants will receive a document to indicate acceptance of the mentioned policy by a signed document. f) Language Course language is English; all content is provided in English, all students are also requested to write all contributions, feedback, texts etc. in English. 3. Grading and Marking As this course is desigened to be a lifelong learning course, no marking will be applied but feedback on the performance for personal reflection will be provided.The performance in each unit will be graded. In particular, students are expected to deliver two short summaries during the course and to fill in several questionnaires. Furthermore, they are asked to collaborate in the group evaluation activities; i.e., students should collaboratively work on the tasks and provide feedback to their colleagues. Hence, also the amount of collaborative work and the quality of the feedback provided will be graded.
